Gay rights and racism??back then and now?

back in the 1950%26#039;s Eisenhower believed racism would end slowly in america once values changed. He did not believe it wa swise to push for civil rights because racist americans would be in resisant to change....

today a similar situation exist for gay right activist. gay men and women want to have the right to marry but many americans disagree w/ theirlifestyle and oppose it. should these gay americans push for the issue or should they just wait until values change? will values ever change when it comes to gay rights??

i just would like the publics opinion on this...|||LGBT should fight for their rights. People fought for civil rights and they got a certain amount of it. How many societal problems go away just by ignoring it?

Anyway, Eisenhower wasn%26#039;t the president heralded by the civil rights movement.|||If you want something done right, do it yourself!

This applies to everything.

For example. If you don%26#039;t tell your freinds to stop calling you Stinky or Bunny they probably won%26#039;t.|||I think that there are a lot of people out there that are still against homosexuality. But I also think that even within my 20 years of living, gay rights have come a long way. I spent half my life not understanding what it meant for someone to be homosexual. But as I started going through high school I realized that it is becoming more open in society and at least seemingly accepted by more people. I just don%26#039;t understand why it should matter to anyone if someone is gay. Because the truth of the matter is, who is it affecting? No one. Is it hurting anyone? No. Why do people care? Because of religious or conservative views that tell them they should be against it. Or because people %26#039;just don%26#039;t like to see it.%26#039; Well, they should all get over it. There are bigger issues out there that we have to deal with as Americans. Seriously. Stop being babies about it. It%26#039;s not like anyone is forcing you to be gay. Jeez. I think anyone should be able to love anyone (except for the adults that use and abuse children). Otherwise, we shouldn%26#039;t have to feel bad about liking someone just because of other people. It%26#039;s frustrating how other people try to control this.|||I actually think it is only a small percentage of the population who opposes gay marriage, but also that only those select few choose to speak up about the issue. So the only exposure we really have to the issue is of the minority of people against homosexuality, rather than the masses who have chosen to remain silent on the issue. It might be understandable why gays would not want to be %26#039;out spoken%26#039; about the issue, considering that although it is something they feel strongly for, is not something they wish to publicize to their friends and family. In order to change the situation, people need to be more comfortable with expressing their views publically, and in the legal arena, while at the same time making sure to do so in a gallant manner. Many causes go down the drain because over-zealous activists pull towards one extreme and end up making the cause itself look extreme. The best approach is a straight forward, knowingly lengthy, well organized, and politely spoken campaign by those who wish to create change.|||Someday we%26#039;re going to debate the a person%26#039;s right to marry an android. Yesterday it was interacial marriages. And today it%26#039;s Gay Marriage. Bottome line is, it%26#039;s a persons right to pursue happiness and to be treated equally. Give Gay their right to marry.
