If that ever happens, science won't reject it just because it's God.
Science won't have the problem - you will have a major problem. Are you going to worship the tangible? I think not. What makes a god or gods interesting is they are not obvious. If you can put your hand on a god, can you still think of it as god?
What is an idol if not something you worship that you can touch?
If a god or gods were provable, then scientific community would accept their existence. That's how science works. Where have you been?

If scientists ever find any compelling evidence that there is a god, or gods, they will publish it in peer-reviewed journals.

well if god does exist and becomes scientifically testable then they will run tests and come to the conclusion that god exists.

Science has nothing to do with theology.
Science embraces only facts. Don't get mad at science for revealing true things, as science has no doubt saved your life and/or the lives of your loved ones on numerous occasions. Science built the computer you're on, and the heat in your house and the car that gets you to where you need to go. Science has also uncovered the origins of man, and it's contrary to what the bible says, but this isn't science's fault. It's Christianity's fault for BSing humanity for 2,000 years.
The same thing it has always done. The only thing it can do. Study the natural universe in natural terms.
Scientists would have far less trouble accepting a provable god then you will accepting that the data just doesn't show your god is there. Sorry, but if all the worlds scientists one day came out saying that there is unequivocal proof that god exists, my reaction would be pretty much...%26quot;oh..really?%26quot; and then I would go on with my life unaltered. If all of your religious leaders came together and stated that the religion you have been following was absolutely made up, and they had proof, could you continue your life unaffected?
Scientists have no emotional ties to their science...that's one of the reasons why it's science.
Painfully obvious that God exists? That won't ever happen. For science, to believe is to see; it needs physical evicence. It is not God when we can see Him under the microscope or through a telescope. Faith and reason alone can prove the existence of God. As for science, it should not seek to prove that God exists because He is tangible; only physical beings are within the scope of science. You may want to see Thomas Aquinas' Quinque Viae (Five Ways) of proving the existence of God at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quinque_viae which is still widely-accepted today. You will see that there is no direct physical evidence of the existence of God. I believe his Quinque Viae does not apply to Catholicism alone since it is philosophical more than theological.
Then they will begin to say to the mountains, 'Fall on us,' and to the hills, 'Cover us.'

Academia states that in the absence of proof of the existence of something it must be deemed not to exist until verifiable proof is found - thus god is held not to exist pending some sort of verifiable evidence.
There is not one single mention of Jesus in the entire Roman record - that is right - not one!!! At the same time as he was supposed to have been around there were a number of Jews claiming to be the messiah - all of whom are well recorded!!
There is not a single contemporary record from any source and even the bible mentions of him like all other references were not written until many years after his supposed death!!

Pilate is recorded in the Roman record as a somewhat lack luster man but no mention of a Jesus, a trial or crucifixion that would surely have been used to make him look brighter!!
At best he was an amalgam of those others!!
The Roman Emperor Constantine produced the bible and he was a pagan not god!!! He also organized Christianity into the Holly Roman Catholic Church!! Not in Israel or any of the countries of supposed origin but entirely ITALIAN!!
Not one word of it is contemporary with the period and was not written until several hundred years after the period the story is set in!! How did the apostles write their books more than a hundred years after they would have been dead?

Atheists have the intellect to see through the conditioning and escape into the real world!!
Agnostics have the intellect to see through the conditioning but lack the courage to throw of the conditioning entirely.
