Christians responsible for exploiting the "natural" world?

%26quot;Quotes from the book of Genesis state clearly that man holds a duty of exploiting the natural world for our own benefits. Man exists to serve god and nature exists to serve man. As the globe begins to feel the restrictions of the changing environmental situation the Christian interpretation of these quotes must be re-evaluated, re-interpreted, and re-expressed via a prolific figure. That is if the Christian-based organization wishes to expand.%26quot;

my class is bashing on christians....

i don%26#039;t even know how defend myself.....|||God gave us the Earth and rule over it (to a point). He gave us water to drink, air to breathe, plants %26amp; animals to eat, and things to see and do. Why would we refuse to use what God gave us?

Yes, we have used up a majority of the Earth%26#039;s resources--but that%26#039;s the way God intended it.

We have nothing to worry about. The Bible clearly states that the Christians will be outta here before the world goes to hell in a bucket (for lack of a better phrase).|||What quotes? Where quotes?

Your %26quot;class%26quot; is attempting to find a pop culture scapegoat.|||Have you ever asked the question:%26quot;What did God mean when he said that we were supposed to be stewards?%26quot;

Or

What did he mean when we supposed to go forth, multiply, and REPLENISH the earth?

As opposed to sucking it dry?|||Sure mankind is supposed to be the steward of the earth and all living things on it...meaning not only to use as we need but to take care of and nurture...

You should tell the porons (puny morons) to look up the meaning of %26quot;stewardship%26quot;...and read the verses properly...we are not to %26quot;exploit%26quot; as in abuse...|||Genesis 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

Romans 8:22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Revelation 21:1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.|||Humans are the only apes who utilize complex thought and develop complex systems and tools. They do this to manipulate and change their surroundings, the environment, and utilize all natural resources around them. It%26#039;s a species-related act to exploit our world. It has nothing to do with religion, which is a human invention to attempt to explain the mysteries of the universe.|||I doubt very much if God said for man to go out and pollute the world, poison the water, poison the air, and while you are at it poison the food. Not at all. God gave man dominion over the earth, to use for his life to survive. To farm the land and in the Old Testament ,God even instructed man how to farm the land to keep the soil good. To have dominion over does mean to ruin the world, it means to care for it. It is all the big businesses that have done the damage to our environment. Don%26#039;t take their crap. They say we are too stupid to understand science so it has to be them wrecking the stuff. All we do is read the Bible, didn%26#039;t you know.|||Point out the environmental abuses in non-Christian, particularly atheist/Communist, countries. The former Soviet Union, for example, %26quot;has become an environmental cesspool that is threatening its neighbors in Europe and Asia...Russian households consume 90% less energy than their Western counterparts (they have smaller homes and fewer appliances), but this savings is rendered meaningless by the colossal wastefulness built into the inefficient military industrial complex. Says a Western diplomat in Moscow: %26#039;The problem is that the entire nation is like a big polluting machine.%26#039; %26quot;

You could also point out that the environmental movement arose in so-called Christian countries, not in primarily Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist, or atheistic countries. Christians, or, at least, people raised in cultures deeply influenced by Christian thought, are the ones who are protecting the environment.

The quote I used is from the article below, which should get you started on your research. You can do a Google search for other sources.
