To believe in what can't be sensed or measured is a sign of mental illness, but in religion its OK? Why?

If I said I believed in someone that no one else could see or detect, it would likely be called an hallucination or delusion. But when believing in the imperceptible in a religious context, it is seen as a good thing, a sign of strong faith. Why do the rules change? Isn%26#039;t the point of logic to maintain a consistent method of thought across situations? Even with things like radio waves and electricity, which we can%26#039;t see, we can measure and manipulate them, so they do exist, or else I couldn%26#039;t run my computer. But god(s) and spirits cannot be percieved by the senses, measured or maniupulated, so why is belief in them so often seen as OK, even virtuous? I come from a religious family and have had many philosophical debates on this, and I still just don%26#039;t get it.|||It%26#039;s Social junk.

Whatever Society says the Psychologist here have to follow as the Norm. Go to another country and things might be different.

I read through some books that are what Psychologist are supposed to use as a base for things. I have come to the conclusion that they say everyone is mentally ill and has illnesses. Just the very act of learning is load of Illnesses.

They do not expect you to remember things, learn things, or try things,.. those are all insane. You should be a luthargic mass incapable of communicateing because to expect communication and learn communication are mentaly illnesses. But then being a drowling mass just plopped over is also an Illness... so there is no escape and anyone can be labled crazy.

I wrote a long senerio for if you were a truely sane person in a fire and I covered everything that would be a mental illness and therefore a sane person can not acomplish. You are not even allowed to scream or fear fire,.. because that is mentally ill. [Or figure out you can move]|||Different people can have a different perception of reality even if they have the same information. See the movie %26quot;Rashomon.%26quot;.|||What a fantastic question! And i think, its because most ppl are born with a deep seeded need to believe in something bigger then ourselves. To know somewhere out there is someone pulling the strings, and if this leads to ppl living there lives to the best and making everything wee do easier on everyone else why not? let um. is it not more logical to to allow ppl to have those things that let them be happy do good things, and there by, making others happy to ease the pain of not knowing, then it is to outright being narrow-minded and saying no no no thats wrong!...besides,as history shows with other beliefs that were looked down upon logically, what if there right?|||Believing in ghost stories is a different thing is blindly following the ghost back to the graveyards in planet of apes.

Believing in our creator is mastering our creator%26#039;s universal communication system in communicating with our creator in planet of apes.|||Norm thinking of those around you, otherwise, there wouldn%26#039;t be a line to define acceptability and insanity. There is a little madness in each and everyone of us. It is just how well we suppressed it so that we act in norm form, otherwise, all of us will be under lock and key.|||lol

philosophy = comedy|||The word %26quot;believe%26quot; is part of the human dictionary in all languages; you use this word in the cases that there is no scientific evidence to prove something. When you feel something with your sense organs, you say I %26quot;know%26quot; it exists; you don%26#039;t use the word %26quot;believe%26quot;.

Now about religions: suppose you are asked by people : who has created this universe? or how it was created?

What will be your honest answer?

If you answer simply: %26quot;I don%26#039;t know because I have no evidence at all%26quot;, then it is a fair response.

But you are not allowed to say :%26quot; I know that there is no GOD%26quot; , because you don%26#039;t have any evidence that GOD does not exist.

In situations like this where it is not possible to prove existence or nonexistence of GOD, people may use the word %26quot;believe in GOD or don%26#039;t believe in GOD%26quot;.

Even judges in courts, may decide a verdict based on doubts and oblige people pay some penalty in cases where truth is not crystal clear. Because it is a human behavior to believe in something, otherwise the word %26quot;believe%26quot; should be erased from the vocabulary.
