Ran into a bad mechanic and wondering what i can do to get things right?

a girl i%26#039;m acquainted with ran into a mechanic who seemed to have run her over the coals with a bill running over 300 in dinero...i%26#039;m not a professional mechanic but i do know quite a bit about car maintenance and come to find out that a lot of the work was shoddy and some actually not dont...proven fact by the thermostat left in the trunk was a thermostat originally bought from the store...and some of the problems that were existing are still occuring are still going on...i just changed spark plugs which were supposed to have been changed last feb. are new now...but were not changed ...basic tuneup stuff...this feller who stated all this and some extra work was done is suppose to be a certified mechanic and works at a car dealership was trying to get this work done as a side job...and all money was paid %26quot;under the table%26quot; as they say...but one check was wrote as payment to prove there was a cash exchange...what i want to know is can this be proven as a situation where someone was taken|||You%26#039;re use of the word dinero makes me wonder where this took place. In the USA and Canada, advise the local office of consumer affairs (name will vary by state). They will take note and check into the situation. Budget constraints could mean it will take years but it will get done. If it was done in Mexico you can at least ask the local consumer affairs people (again I have no idea what the correct title would be so I hope you understand what provincial, state or federal government office I am talking about). Good luck because it does sound like a rip off but don%26#039;t expect to get much satisfaction.|||Try contacting the manager or owner of the shop and letting them know about the service or contact the better business bureau|||Ya Dummie,Ya Can%26#039;t Do Nuthin,Spend Your Money At A Real Shop.Hopefully An Honest Shop...Get The Car Fixed Right..Ya Been Had....2nd Oldest Con In The Automotive Industry|||If the work was done on the side and not at the dealership, then you may be SOL. Talk to the mechanic and discuss the situation with him. %26#039;Word of mouth%26#039; travels fast if someone does bad repair work. Explain that to the mechanic too.

I never do shoddy work no matter what I do. I work on everything as if it was my own.

Good luck.|||if the mechanic do not have a business license to work on

becouse it is illegam to wrok on other people vehicle.|||well first of all if a mechanic sees a gal coming they see big money involved because they feel that the gal dont no jack chit bout cars , anyway , most mechanics will not put a part on a car that was purchased by someone other than them there for they will not warent the part nor do the labor in some cases on that particular area , if the guy did do the job an d wha the sadi was done but was not then u or the party in questioned should of took it back to the place and had them do it in front of them , , when u hire someon e on the side ther e is no legal binding contract , unless other words stated , but the person can tak ethem to small claims court and have some if not all moneys spent as proff she will need the cancelled cheek and hopefully it says for mechanic work or for work on car , , if this was in feb , this is august now so there will be some wear n tear on the spark plugs , and sometimes spark plugs will go bad faste if thers something wroung with the timing , distributer points etc , even the wires , sounds like the guy wanted to make a fast buck and i hate to say this seen a fool coming , im not saying your friend is a fool but thats what the guy was saying , , heres a tip if u know exactly wha t is wroung with the car or what u want to have done to a car , mark the items in question that u want replaced with something that is none washable etc , and ask to see the parts that are replaced when u pick up the car and look to see if the items u have marked are there , if one is missing then u know that they didnt replace the item so look on the car and point it out and let them know hey i marked this part u charged me for it but its still on the car , a good machenic rather its a back yard one or a certified on e will be glade to see the parts if they tell u h they have to do a core exchange for the parts then utell them not untill u have looked at the parts yourself , as for getting any money back your friend may only be intitteled to the cost of the amount of the cheek , , and any hardship this may have caused her , , jiffy lube did this to my sis in law tole her they did a tune up etc , then when they did her smog cheek they said she neede dthis and that , i told her to come to my house and we went to my mechanic and he looked at her car and gave her a number to hae this place repoorted becau e they didnt do her plugs wires etc nto even her oil ,, go figure , and he did they smog and she passed
